About Guillermo
Guillermo Villar is an owner of Alcazar Development Group, where he brings over forty years of experience in commercial and real estate banking. He began his banking career in 1967 with Chase in Puerto Rico. After graduating from the Bank’s Executive Development Program and working in various credit and lending positions, he managed the areas of Corporate and Real Estate lending. In 1978 he moved to Venezuela to head the formation and management of a financial leasing company, a joint venture of Chase and the Mercantil Group. Later he occupied various senior management positions with Mercantil, including Group Global CFO, Managing Director of bank subsidiaries in Switzerland, Panamá and Curacao, and for the last twenty years of his banking career, President and CEO of Commercebank in Miami. Mr. Villar holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico. He has served on the boards of various trade, community and charitable organizations, including the Red Cross and the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, and at some points in his career he has been a part time university professor in topics related to banking and finance. Mr. Villar retired in 2009 from Mercantil Commercebank, where he remains as a member of Board of Directors of the Bank and the Holding Company.
